Samsung Wallet will begin supporting biometric authentication for small-ticket UPI transactions starting in December, allowing users to approve payments using their fingerprint or facial recognition registered on Galaxy devices, eliminating the need to enter a PIN for every transaction, a senior company official confirmed.
Madhur Chaturvedi, Senior Director, Services & Apps Business, Samsung India, said, “Samsung Wallet’s authentication experience has been enhanced with biometric verification through device fingerprint and facial recognition, removing the need for PIN entry for everyday use. Users will be able to access the app and make UPI payments seamlessly using their Galaxy device’s biometrics.”

Currently, only UPI Lite users can make small-value payments without entering a PIN.
Chaturvedi added that new Samsung smartphones launching early next year will include a UPI account onboarding feature, allowing users to link their UPI accounts during device setup.
He also revealed that Samsung Wallet will soon enable direct online use of stored credit and debit cards across a wide range of merchants, without requiring users to manually enter their card details.
