The legendary world of Baahubali is preparing for a grand comeback, but in a way no one quite expected. As fans gear up for the re-release of Baahubali: The Epic, director SS Rajamouli has unveiled major updates about the franchise’s future, including a 120 crore animated film and long-awaited confirmation about Baahubali 3.
A New Chapter in the Baahubali Universe
In a recent conversation with stars Prabhas and Rana Daggubati, Rajamouli announced that a new project is on the horizon. “We are releasing the teaser for Baahubali: The Eternal War,” he revealed, sending fans into a frenzy. The teaser will debut alongside the re-release of Baahubali: The Epic.
However, Rajamouli clarified that this new project isn’t Baahubali 3, at least, not yet. Baahubali: The Eternal War will be a full-length 3D animated film set in the same universe, offering a fresh story while preserving the essence of the iconic characters.
“We previously launched a 2D animated show on Amazon. This time, it’s a 3D animation that will take these beloved characters on an entirely new journey,” Rajamouli explained.

While the animated film announcement thrilled fans, Rajamouli’s next remark sparked even more excitement. Teasing the long-anticipated sequel, he said, “Baahubali 3, the ultimate thing is there.”
The statement reignited speculation about the next live-action installment, confirming that the filmmaker isn’t done with the Baahubali saga just yet.
Inside the Making of a 120 Crore Animated Epic
Rajamouli revealed that the ambitious animated film has been in the works for years. “Producer Shobu has always wanted to expand the Baahubali universe beyond expectations. He met a young animation director, Ishan Shukla, who brought a unique idea to continue the story in a new direction. I loved it. The team has been developing it for around two and a half years, and the budget now stands at about 120 crore,” he shared.
Prabhas, who immortalized the titular hero on screen, expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “It’s already a hit if you loved the films! 120 crore is massive, almost the same as the first Baahubali movie’s budget,” he said.
Clearing the Air on Baahubali: The Epic
Ahead of the re-release, rumors circulated that Baahubali: The Epic might include unseen footage. Rajamouli, however, clarified, “People are talking about extra scenes, but the only addition is a small dialogue scene dubbed by Nasser sir, intercut with his existing dialogues.”
He confirmed that Baahubali: The Epic is a re-edited version of the two original films, crafted into a single cinematic experience.
Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and an ensemble cast, Baahubali: The Epic will release worldwide on October 31, with international premieres beginning October 29.
