Dwijing Festival 2025-2026 Date in Assam

Dwijing Festival is an annual river festival held in Chirang, Assam, from 27th December to 7th January. Jointly organized by the Assam Tourism Department, Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), and Bodoland Tourism, the festival has become a prominent cultural event in the state’s calendar. Originally launched by the Bodo community in 2016–2017 as the “AIE River Winter Festival,” the event received an overwhelming response in its inaugural year. Its popularity led to its rebranding as the “Dwijing Festival,” derived from the Bodo words “Dwi” (river) and “Zing” (bank), a nod to its unique location along the banks of the Aie River.

The Aie River, meaning “Mother,” originates in the Himalayan ranges of Bhutan, flowing through the Chirang and Bongaigaon districts of Assam before joining the Brahmaputra River and eventually reaching the Bay of Bengal. The river is vital to nearly 30,000 families in the Chirang district, supporting their daily livelihoods.

Celebrated around New Year’s, the Dwijing Festival has also earned the title of Assam’s “New Year Festival,” drawing large crowds with its vibrant blend of culture, tradition, and festivity.
